Year of Mercy

December 8th, 2015  - November 20th, 2016

Today, over two thousand years ago – a baby girl was conceived – a baby who would become the most famous woman who walked the earth – a baby who would become the Mother of God! That baby was Mary and in response to an invitation from God she gave birth to the greatest man who ever walked the earth. That man was Jesus – the ‘light of the world’, a man who offers us faith, hope and love. Jesus, a man who healed, forgave, fed, challenged and cared for all those with whom he came into contact. Today’s  world, so full of suffering, needs Jesus more than ever today. It is not surprising therefore that Pope Francis has announced a ‘Holy Year of Mercy’. Holy Doors will be opened in Cathedrals around the world and we are invited to enter through the door where we will encounter mercy and in our turn leave so that we can take it to our world, which is in so much need.

As we begin this Holy Year may all those who cross the thresholds of our schools encounter mercy in all of our interactions. Let our schools truly reveal the qualities of compassion, love, forgiveness, gentle challenge, patience, care for those in need and encouragement for those who doubt, that we hold dear.
