Democracy Day

DEMOCRACY DAY FRIDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2015 + CHANCE TO VISIT HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT!!!

Friday 18th September will see the school celebrating the BRITISH VALUES  of:

Democracy.

Rule of law.

Individual liberty.

Mutual Respect.

We will be doing this in a special assembly to reveal our new House Captains (and their new house names), the school council for 2015/16, our E-safety champions and the new Sports Leaders; all of whom will have been elected through a democratic process.  Follow us on Twitter for the latest in the run up to the big day itself and then keep an eye on the website for the eventual winners.

The school council will be run by Mrs. Thain this year and she is really looking forward to watching them make a difference to the whole school.

For children in Years 5 and 6 there will also be an opportunity to compete for places on a trip to the new education centre at the Palace of Westminster in London on Thursday 17th November 2015.  The competition will involve making a presentation on any political figure they choose.  This can be in the form of a written project, a powerpoint style display, a speech or any other method that demonstrates our core value of CREATIVITY.

Possible figures to research could be…Indira Gandhi, Winston Churchill, Oliver Cromwell, Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela, Hilary Clinton, Julius Caesar, Eleanor Roosevelt  or ANY OTHER political figure who the children find interesting.

More details about this trip will follow soon, in the meantime start researching now…
