Festival of Speed

On Thursday 23rd of June 2016 some very lucky students of St. Mary’s Primary School got the opportunity to take a visit to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

As soon as we arrived, there was a field packed full of aircraft of all shapes and sizes as well as Red Arrows, helicopters etc. We crossed a bridge which took us over a race track (where several awesome cars raced by).

Over the other side were several fields packed with showrooms and cars. The first stand everybody got distracted by was the outstanding BLOODHOUND SSC stand. We all rushed in and admired the incredibly fast car (even though Mr Howard told the incredibly lucky students not to get too excited as they would have the opportunity to come back and learn much more).

Stunned by the magnificent car, the pupils sped outside and started to make their own version of a mini Bloodhound SSC car. It had to be as aerodynamic as the car itself. Eventually everybody finished making their stunning cars and Sean had a special treat for them. He explained that we could put gunpowder into the back of their cars to make them reach incredible speeds of up to 60 mph!

We raced the cars by checking how fast they would go, it was a challenge to time their speeds. Alicia, a lucky student of St. Mary’s School, had the fastest speed out of the students. Everybody’s excitement rate lowered as they were about to go for lunch. After a quick lunch, they raced over to the Mars rover stand to be stunned by seeing a replica of a Mars rover wandering around. A very kind lady then filled them up to the brim with fantastic facts about the rover.
After crossing the bridge, the children walked in excitement across a huge part of land where they saw many Formula 1 race cars. Before heading to the Good Wood shop the lucky pupils headed over to stands where they found cars such as Jaguars, Hydro cars, Audis, Porsches and Aston Martins.

After an incredible day at the Good Wood festival of speed, the spoilt students split into two groups, one which would go to the Audi show rooms and the other would admire the Good Wood sculpture. After going to the Audi rooms everybody filled with excitement when Leo (one of the spoilt students) spotted a JAGUAR DRIVING VIP. Every single student rushed over to watch the incredible moment when they saw Jaguars doing full on spins and turns. Soon after the amazing trip everybody thanked Sean for an amazing day.
