Poole Libraries to provide new learning opportunities

On Saturday 14th November, 10am – 12noon, Poole Library Service launches their Universal Learning Offer with a special taster morning at Poole Central Library in the Dolphin Centre, and we would be delighted if you could join us.

At the Learning Launch there will be demonstrations and opportunities to get involved in computer programming (coding), designing and making 3D objects and other creative activities suitable for all ages. A 3D printer will be in action, and information will be available about Code Clubs, Raspberry Pi (a tiny affordable computer) and volunteering opportunities.

There will be free help and support available for customers who want to get on-line or who want to find out more about computer, tablet and social media sessions available.

Skills & Learning Bournemouth Poole and Dorset will be there to talk through the range of courses on offer, providing the skills needed for work, or possible leisure courses which may be of interest.

Local businesses and job seekers can find out more about Futurelearn MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), which are delivered one step at a time, are accessible on mobile, tablet and desktop and offer learners the opportunity to discuss what they’re learning with others as they go. Poole, is one of only six UK libraries (Somerset, Dudley, Norfolk, Telford and Southwark) piloting this new way of learning in public libraries.

A new film, ‘Lightbulb Moments – Learning in Libraries’ will be available to view which highlights the impact that learning in libraries has had on customers across the country.

The Universal Learning Offer was launched nationally on November 5th, and offers new ways for people of all ages to learn in libraries.

We hope you will be able to join us to find out about this new offer, and have a go at some digital making.
