Our Swimming Stars

Year 5 and 6 St Mary’s Swimarathon Swimmers Star in The Daily Echo!

On 7th March, our Year 5 and 6 swim teams swam 52 lengths and a record 59 lengths, in the annual Poole Lions Club Swimarathon. They raised over £248 for the Poole Lions Club charities. Well done to Ella, Ella, Jack, Sarah, Tom Jack, Jack, Amy, Caty, Lottie and Matthew!

The Poole Lions Club Swimarathon is now in it’s 37th year and each year it raises thousands of pounds for charities. Spread over Saturday and Sunday, the swimarathon consists of teams of six swimmers and a non-swimming captain. Each team member swims one lap of the 25m Poole Dolphin swimming pool, in a relay, clocking up as many lengths as possible over 55 minutes. The funds raised by this year’s charity event will be shared between Lewis - Manning Hospice, Montacute School, (which needs specialist equipment), Chestnut Nursery, (which provides sheltered work opportunities), and the purple Teardrop Campaign refuge for trafficked women.

A photograph was taken for the Daily Echo, of the St Mary’s swimming team, alongside swimmers from other schools and societies, the town’s Mayor, and a very furry lion! The event was extremely enjoyable and we look forward to competing in it again next year. Maybe we can form a team of teachers and parents too! Please inform us if you would be interested.
