Our trip to Parliament

Our trip to the Houses of Parliament!

By Megan F, Abigail A and Leah-Marie K, Year 6

Firstly, we arrived at bustling London. Walking speedily, we admired the dazzling view of the London Bridge and the colossal buildings such as Big Ben and the London Eye! Finally, we reached the Houses of Parliament information centre where we were met by two tour guides , who were called Nikki and Ed. They led us into a vibrant room. Bolted up right, we eagerly watched a video at a 360 degree angle as it showed us the origin of democracy and law. Amazed at what we learned, we asked loads of questions. It didn't stop there...

Entering the Palace of Westminster, we saw where the Queen entered! Tiptoeing up the ancient stairs, us group of children (and Mr Howard), who were over the moon to be there, took in what they were being told. In addition to this, we learnt a lot of facts for example: the Palace of Westminster was built up, and then burnt down, then built up again, then nearly blown up, then bombed, then built up again, then burnt down, then finally built up for hopefully the last time and that is how it stands today!

In the House of Commons, the Conservative party, which won the election on 7th of May 2015, sit at the right side of the House of the Commons. The other parties sit at the other side of the Royal room. Next, we entered the Queen’s robing room, where she puts on her robes ready for the ceremonies. Furthermore, she has a secret toilet on the right hand side of the fireplace (it not so secret now we know). We finished off with a view of the House of Lords; what a beautiful building!

The upset children, who did not want to go home, then had to go home anyway on the tremendous train.
