Summer Big Friendly Read

Libraries everywhere are celebrating 100 years of the world's favourite storyteller - Roald Dahl. The Big Friendly Read, Summer Reading Challenge 2016 is your chance to join in the celebrations! Sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge and get a free collector's folder to keep your special Big Friendly Read cards. The cards include Quentin Blake illustrations from some of Roald Dahl's best-loved stories. All you have to do is read six library books of your choice over the summer, collecting cards along the way. Finish the challenge to get a special medal and certificate.

The Big Friendly Read begins in all LibrariesWest libraries on Saturday 16 July and runs until 10 September. It's fun, it's friendly and best of all, it's totally FREE.

More than 37,000 children across the LibrariesWest region took part in Record Breakers last summer. A parent said: "My three children love the reading challenge. I think it's a fantastic idea and gets kids reading through the summer". Anyone aged 4-11 can take part. If you're not already a member of your library, joining is easy and free, just ask your parent or carer to bring you along.

Libraries are also holding activities throughout the holiday to help children complete the challenge. Visit your local library or go to the Big Friendly Read website to find out more and talk about the books you've read, find a new book to read, play games and find out which books your favourite celebrities recommend.
