World Book Day

Getting into character on World Book Day!

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 5th March, St Mary’s will be hosting The Travelling Book Company all week; from Monday 2nd March to Friday 6th March 2015.

The Book Fair will be held in the KS1area at the following times:

Mon- Fri 12.30-1.05pm Pupils may purchase books on the day

Mon-Fri 3.30pm- 4.15pm Pupils must be accompanied by parents/carers for this session.

Any money brought in to purchase books at lunchtime must be placed in a sealed envelope labelled with the child’s name/class and amount. This can then be looked after by your child’s teacher. Your child will be bringing home a leaflet which shows many of the titles available at the fair.

All commission raised at the book fair will be used to buy more fiction books for our school library.

We look forward to seeing you at the book fair.
World Book Day - Thursday 5th March 2015
World Book Day takes place on Thursday 5th March 2015, and we would like to invite all the children (and staff!) to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. Ideas for some home made costumes can be found at: www.worldbookaid.org/worldbookday. Please do not feel pressured to produce elaborate costumes. Ideas such as wearing their own clothes with Who am I “clues” attached to guess a character or simply wearing a couple of accessories such as hat, glasses etc to “suggest” a character can be just as effective.

Across the week and on the day itself, pupils will be undertaking book related activities in class which will be shared on our web site.

World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of EIGHT special £1 World Book Day books, or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. Your child’s token is enclosed and can be redeemed at most UK bookshops. Please help your child to use it on or around World Book Day by visiting your local bookshop (if you need help finding one, visit www.booksellers.org.uk/bookshopsearch).

In conjunction with this event, St Mary’s will be hosting The Travelling Book Company from Monday 2nd March until Friday 6th March. (Please see separate information letter) The token may also be exchanged here to receive £1 off any book costing more than £2.99

You can join us in building your child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together regularly and joining your local library if you are not yet members. For more information about World Book Day and ideas on sharing books at home, visit www.worldbookday.com.

Children are never too young to start their journey with books, and the benefits of reading are enormous—so we hope, like us, you will use World Book Day to celebrate it with your child.
