Ukulele – Week 4
Today we revisited the tune that we learnt last week using the strings of G, C and E. We then added an introduction to the song by adding the chords of C and F add 9. We also practised changing between the two chords of F and Am. It’s sounding really good!
Ukulele – Week 3
This week we learnt and practised the ‘upstrum’ technique on our ukuleles. We also revisited the chords of C major and A minor and played them together. We then learnt a simple tune by plucking the strings and played it in time to a drumbeat. Years 3 and 4 are sounding great after just 3 weeks of tuition!
Top tip: you can remember the names of the strings using this rhyme. G-C-E-A.

Today we welcomed Rob Palmer from SoundStorm to teach Years 3 and 4 the ukulele for the summer- term. In our first session, we learnt about the different parts of the ukulele and how to strum correctly. We even played the chords C major and A minor in time to a drum beat. We can’t wait for next week!
Samba Workshop
We welcomed Daniel Priest from SoundStorm Music Hub to St. Mary’s to teach Years 3, 4 & 5 about Samba. Firstly we learnt about the different instruments in a Samba orchestra (or Bateria as it is known in Brazil), and their role in the music. Next, we had a go at drumming different rhythm patterns and putting them together to create a groove. It was great fun and we learnt a lot.
